Our Hayward Aqua-Rite In-Ground Chlorine Generator arrived in very timely fashion and was just as advertised. Installation was a little trickier than we had originally thought as we had to revise the plumbing of our pool pump to be able to install the T-Cell and flow switch with enough straight pipe on the return line beyond our filter. Fortunately my brother is a plumber who helped me take care of that. My brother-in-law is an electrician so he took care of the wiring of the Aqua Rite Control box to our electric panel. Worked fine for me, but I would recommend professional installation if you aren't skilled at plumbing and electricity.
Once installed, we added 700 pounds of salt as recommneded for our 27,000 gallon pool, but that was too much. I would suggest adding about 75% of the recommended amount and then adding a bag at a time until you get to the proper salinity level. With all that salt, we had a 3900 ppm salt level (recommended is 2700 to 3400) so we had to remove some water to get the salt level down.
We also learned that the 50% output level with the 40,000 gallon T-Cell was too high for our 27,000 gallon pool. It made sense once we did the math, but we have found that a 20% output level is perfect to generate about 3 ppm free chlorine. After a couple of weeks we got it figured out and now all of the chemicals are at perfect levels.
One other thing we learned - with the salt water, the nuts and bolts on the top rung of our ladder have started to rust since they are exposed to the salt water and air at times. I need to look into synthetic nuts and bolts or something else that won't rust over the long term. We've also had a little staining on the bottom which I think may be due to some iron in the water. I've just learned to vacuum as soon as I see any sediment on the bottom. If it continues, I may try vacuuming to waste to see if I can get rid of it permanently.
We LOVE our new salt system and just wish we had made the switch sooner. Maintenance (chemical balancing) is much easier (actually I don't have to add a thing anymore) and I don't miss the dry skin, dried out hair and that stinky chlorine smell that I used to have whenever I got out of the chemically chlorinated pool. Met my expectations although have to run at 100% output in 100 degree weather for a 21,000 gallons swimming pool. Probably this can be expected in Texas. Previously had a Clearwater Zodiac rated for 25,000 gallons and it didn't come close to furnishing enough chlorine during the summer.
Very good diagnostic features showing chlorine generation, voltage and current at geneator and salt in ppm.
