I had bad luck for this product. it was hard to start it. and on the second time we used it, the string to start the generator broken.
I spent 570$ and only used twice in 30 days. :((((
shipped to my home on July 24th, and broken on Aug 24th -- poor quality
We purchased two ix 2000 generators. The first one the choke was broken and lying in the box. Also the generator comes with a quart of oil. The oil container was opened and empty. The generator started and sounded awful. It ran for about 30 mins and never ran again. We got a replacement one through amazon the second one came in the box covered in oil. The quart of oil was full and unopened. I don't understand where the oil came from but it was all over and inside the generator. And this generator never ran. I would not recommend this generator all the reviews I have read have been bad. I have heard the generator comes from China then Generac puts their name on it. They do not actually make or back-up their product. Amazon backs up their product they sell and I would use amazon again. I would recommend spending a little extra and get a Honda generator they run forever and are very quite. -- generac ix 2000 portable generator
If you read the other reviews, you will notice that there is definitely an issue with the choke lever. After I received this generator, there was also an issue with the choke lever being broken off right out of the box. This is a nice little generator and I personally think Generac is a good brand. I have had no negative issues with the company or it's products in the past but this is certainly a KNOWN issue by now. Generac and Amazon obviously know about this choke lever problem. I think whoever buys this product on Amazon should be fairly warned before they purchase it. It can be fixed by contacting Generac or going through a local authorized dealer to repair it but this is an inconvenience and can take a substantial amount of time. If you are buying this product with plans of using it right away, I wouldn't count on it. I also think it is wrong to keep selling an item that has been proven to be defective as a brand new item. I haven't had my generator fixed yet, it is currently sitting at a local repair shop. -- Expect this product to be broken on arrival
The lever used for choke/run is being refitted. Expect Generac to contact you and have you send your machine back if it uses the plastic lever design. Mine fell apart with the second startup.
Starting the machine is very involved. Rotating a pressure relief to off, priming, rotating the pressure relief to on, pulling the cord handle. I found if you forget to rotate the pressure relief back to on, you dump fuel when you pull the cord. The fuel comes out of tubing and dumps the fuel to the side and under the unit. Obviously, this can be ignited by any nearby ignition source, and will contaminate the ground and air.
While I can take care to hanle procedures, I was still concerned about family and friends who might use it.
Other problems include that the machine shuts off when you lift it the tinyest little bit. The machine wont restart without going throught the choke routine even though the engine is hot.
I wont be buying Generac product anytime soon. -- recalled, dangerous and environmentally unfit
Generac ix2000 I bought this product mid October. It took a few weeks to get to me. When I got it the Choke lever was broken off and not even in the package. Generac sent me a new one after about another month of waiting with a return label for the broken one to be returned . The choke lever was on this one but looked like it was made from some very cheap plastic. I set it up and was very careful in moving the lever since the first one was broken off. Once I moved it it came apart and broke in the exact same spot as the other one had come to me broken. So a month and a half later I still have no generator and no $600. From the short time it was running I could tell it was louder than I would think it would be. About lawn mower loud. Very dissapointed in the product! I wish I bought it locally so I could return it and get my money back.
(Edit:After contacting Generac personally they were very professional and helpful. They had someone local that I was able to take the unit to to get repaired. The local dealer was quick in repairing the product under warranty.) -- OK product with improvement needed.
